Acts: A 14-Day Devotional for Men
This article is part of the ESV.org Reading Plans series.
Strengthed by the Spirit
The book of Acts was written by Luke as a follow-up to his Gospel. He is known to have been a friend of Paul’s, as well as a traveling companion of his. A theme of the book is the fact that believers are strengthened by the Holy Spirit to declare the good news of Jesus Christ among both Jews and Gentiles, and thus, establish the church.
The book’s introduction from the ESV Men’s Devotional Bible reads:
In the book of Acts we see the early church in action through its world-changing witness and the transformed lives of the disciples. Christian men are called to be gentle, kind, compassionate peace-makers, but this gentleness should have Holy Spirit–fueled strength, grounded in our assurance in Christ’s resurrection and producing strong leaders who are men of conviction.
