Come, Let Us Adore Him: A 5-Day Devotional

This article is part of the ESV.org Reading Plans series.

Recapture the Awe

The story of Christmas is distinct from all other stories because it’s real. Every year, as we revisit the narrative, we can tend to forget this, as our hearts and minds rehearse what we’ve come to know as familiar.

In the introduction to Come, Let Us Adore Him: A Daily Advent Devotional, Paul David Tripp says:

Often when we become familiar with things, we begin to take them for granted. When we are familiar with things, we tend to quit examining them. Often when we are familiar with things, we quit noticing them. When we are familiar with things, we tend not to celebrate them as we once did.

As Christians, we must be vigilant and proactive this time of year—taking care to stir up in our hearts a genuine awe at the incarnation of Christ so that, as Tripp says, “we really do come to adore him and . . . live with a renewed appreciation for the grace that we have found in him.”
