Gospel Hope for Suffering: A 5-Day Devotional with Paul David Tripp

This article is part of the ESV.org Reading Plans series.

Suffering Is Inescapable

We all wish to live lives free of trial, suffering, or hardship, but few escape these effects of sin this side of eternity. In fact, John 16:33 guarantees that “in the world, you will have tribulation.” Even still, as believers, we can put our trust in God and know that through our darkest days, he is working in us for his ultimate glory and our good. This is hope for the sufferer.

In his book Suffering: Gospel Hope When Life Doesn’t Make Sense Paul David Tripp says:

Salvation isn’t found in our ability to escape suffering but in the presence and grace of the One who meets us in it.
