What It Means To Be a Missional Mother
Sometimes moms wonder if Jesus had in mind the parent teacher conferences and the diaper changing stall in the public restrooms when he issued his great commission command: “Go therefore . . . ”
Although the responsibilities that God has given mothers look different than before there were kids in the picture, our role in the kingdom remains unchanged. We can take comfort that we are ambassadors. In 2 Corinthians 5:20 it says, “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
When you become a mother, you don’t leave your role as an ambassador for Christ behind. Not at all. Our motherhood is a part of God’s mission. It is a strategic ministry designed by God to call people to worship the One who is seated on the throne in heaven.
Jesus is worthy to receive worship from everyone, from the nursery to the farthest corners of the earth. Moms who want to live on mission for Jesus will be encouraged when they ask themselves this question: “Where is God sending me?” Perhaps you “go therefore” to the nursery and back, or to the school and back, or to the workplace and back.

Be his ambassador in those places. You might go into town to run errands or go to the doctor's office; go as one sent by God. Maybe your plans for being on mission for Jesus changed when you became a mom, but remember that God’s plan to glorify himself in and through you will never change. You were created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand so that you would walk in them. So, where will you walk? Or drive? Or sit and rock a baby?
God is making his appeal through us. From playdates for our kids to baby showers for our grandkids, our job is to our implore our family, friends, and neighbors on behalf of Christ. “Be reconciled to God.” That is our mission.
