The Next Opportunity

The need for God’s Word in the Global South has never been greater. Across Africa, Latin America, and parts of Asia, the church is expanding at an unprecedented pace, with nearly seven out of ten Christians worldwide residing in the Global South.¹ Yet countless believers still lack access to a Bible of their own.

Building on the momentum of the One Million Bibles Initiative completed in 2024, we are launching a new initiative to place an additional one million Bibles into the hands of those in need throughout the Global South.

Evidence of the Impact

Antony Waswa knows firsthand what it means for a believer not to have a Bible of his own. Though some in his church located in Nairobi, Kenya had Bibles, many in the congregation did not. Thanks to the One Million Bibles Initiative, Antony’s church received a case of Bibles to distribute.

The impact was immediate and powerful. Antony noted that because everyone now has a Bible, it is especially helpful in settings like Sunday school. “I was in that class recently. Now everybody has their own Bibles and they are enjoying reading God’s Word.”

This access means believers don’t have to rely solely on a teacher or pastor to understand the Bible—they can read it for themselves. Antony shared how this has transformed his own faith:

One thing that has stood for me clearly from what I've been studying in the Bible is knowing God—not through what men say or what people think through dreams and things like that—but knowing God from where he has spoken about himself clearly. And that happens in his Word.

The Bible has also impacted his family life.

The Word of God is what tells me . . . that I’m not just here to provide for [my children] meals or their education, but also I need to be concerned—even much more concerned—about their spiritual wellbeing.

His children have also received Bibles, which they read together every evening.

Stories like Antony’s confirm that the Word of God has the power to change lives. This is why Crossway is committed to distributing one million Bibles to places in the Global South like Kenya, where there is a deep hunger and great need for God’s Word.
